THE AREA, Aquitaine and Midi-Pyrenees The region offers an extremely pleasant climate and a rich and varied landscape, from forests of oaks and chestnuts, through to fields of corn and sunflowers, interspersed with rivers, streams and lakes. Life here is relaxed, with an emphasis on the fine things in life - wonderful wines, delicious duck, fresh fruits, marvellous mushrooms and numerous nuts, to be enjoyed at leisure with friends and family.

Apart from agriculture, tourism is an important part of the local economy, with towns such as Bergerac, Sarlat, Cahors and Toulouse within easy reach, prehistoric sites such as the caves of Lascaux and numerous bastides (medieval fortified villages, which for the most part were built during the 100 years war).

The area between the Lot and the Dordogne Valleys is only 45 minutes from Bergerac airport (Ryanair and Flybe offer low-cost flights from Leeds, Exeter, Bristol, Birmingham, Southampton, Glasgow, Stansted, Liverpool and East Midlands). In addition, Toulouse (around 2 hours away) and Bordeaux (around 2.5 hours drive) both offer flights not only to the UK but also to the rest of Europe, making the region accessible to all.
